CLEVELAND, Ohio — The rest of Ohio and maybe other parts of the country are discovering what has been known in the northeast: Marcus Johnson is playing maybe even better than advertised for Garfield Heights.

The sophomore guard, who is ranked 11th nationally in the Class of 2026, put up 40 points Saturday on Faith Family Academy at Flyin’ to the Hoop at Kettering Fairmont’s Trent Arena near Dayton. Faith Family Academy, based in suburban Dallas, has won three straight Class 4A state championships in Texas. Garfield Heights (12-0) is vying for its first OHSAA Division I state championship this year and maintained its No. 1 spot in the cleveland.com boys basketball Top 25 with a 68-67 double overtime win against the Eagles.
