Central Ohio homeowners paying for appraisals to lower historically high property values

Since tentative and historically high property values came out for 450,000 properties in Franklin County this summer, many homeowners are paying for their own appraisals in attempts to lower the final numbers. Of the 10,000 property owners who have filed for an appeal so far, the auditor’s office indicated 50% have seen readjustments.

“I think the auditor has experts. Homeowners should have experts,” Reynoldsburg homeowner Mike Powers said after he saw his recorded value decrease last week by $60,000. “The cost is not unreasonable.”
