In 2018, the Bethel Rd. location closed. Then, in 2020, the Grandview location shuttered its doors. Now, the Westerville location is saying goodbye.

If you’ve kept up with restaurant closings for the past couple of years, you probably know we’re talking about Winking Lizard Tavern, a 40-year-old, Ohio based restaurant chain that started in 1983 in Bedford Heights, OH.

Winking Lizard Tavern announced this week that they’re closing their Westerville location, located at 496 Polaris Parkway, at the end of the business day on December 22nd, mostly due to the effects of the pandemic.

Cameras spot wrong-way driver on I-70 near Reynoldsburg

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Another wrong-way driver got onto the roads of Columbus early Saturday morning. That incident ended with the driver being charged with driving while impaired but before the driver crashed into any other drivers on the road.

Columbus police said the driver was stopped on Interstate 70. The driver’s vehicle was picked up by the Ohio Department of Transportation on state Route 315 before heading the wrong way down I-70. The driver then used an emergency crossover to turn back the correct direction on the interstate before being stopped.

According to a recent social media post from the inventive bakery and sweet shop Sugar Rush, the concept is aiming to open its new location over Labor Day weekend.

The concept’s new storefront will be located at 8114 E. Broad St. in Reynoldsburg, two buildings away from its current location. According to the post, the floor, signage and seating has been installed, and Sugar Rush is currently waiting for its final inspection.

Growth is a constant for Licking Heights Local Schools, and a steady increase of new students is not stopping anytime soon. To best accommodate the district’s growth and meet the goal of serving all students, two new positions have been created to support district leadership, building administrators, and teachers: Assistant Superintendent and Pre-K to 6 Curriculum Director.

Thomas Holdren will serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Licking Heights Local Schools for the 2023-2024 school year. Micca Conley will join the district team as the Pre-K to 6th Grade Curriculum Director.

Pataskala area residents make Dean’s Lists, graduate from colleges

Pataskala-area natives had success during the 2022-23 academic year at Ohio colleges and beyond.

Elias Tollefson, of Pataskala, made the Dean’s List at Eastern Oregon University for the 2023 winter semester.

At Ohio Northern University, Pataskala native Abigail Lescalleet and Reynoldsburg resident Cody McCandlish made the Dean’s List during the 2023 spring semester. Lescalleet also graduated this spring with a doctorate in pharmacy.

One of the invasive species the Ohio Department of Agriculture is worried about has been spotted in Ohio.

The box tree moth has been confirmed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to have been found near the boarder Hamilton and Clermont counties.

Like the spotted lanternfly, the box tree moth is native to Asia. According to the agency, the moth is a threat to boxwood plantings and the horticulture industry.

The public is being asked if they see a box tree moth to report it via the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s reporting tool.
